I keep rougher numbers than the eBird crowd — no proper transect counts, just what I happen to log after a walk. Started counting properly in March, so this is really only five months' worth.

New species logged, by month

April was the obvious peak — spring migrants arriving on top of everything that had already wintered here. June and July barely register, which tracks: that's exactly the post-breeding lull I keep going on about, when nothing new is worth adding because nothing's moving and nothing's singing. August has already picked up a little with the first returning waders, and I'd expect that line to climb properly from here into autumn.
